Volcanism of the Huasteca Plains (Eastern Mexico) geochemical and petrographic data

Through chemical and petrographic analysis of igneous rocks between Tuxpan and Ciudad Mante, two distinct sets were recognized: the alkaline intrusives of the Sierra de Tamaulipas and the alkaline basalts. The Nopal and Murciélago hills consist of phonolite and tinguaíta, while the volcanic neck of Bernal de Horcasitas is made up of alkaline basalt, and the volcanic complexes of Chicontepec are composed of tephrite and basanite.
